Internship Insights: A First-Year Vet Student’s Journey

Embarking on an internship at a veterinary clinic as a first-year vet student is an experience like no other. This hands-on journey has provided me with invaluable knowledge and practical skills that textbooks alone could never impart. The learning curve was steep, but every moment was filled with opportunities to grow and understand the intricacies of veterinary medicine.

One of the most fascinating aspects of my internship was observing the process of taking blood from small animals. Although I did not perform the procedure myself, watching the skilled veterinarians and technicians work taught me a great deal about the precision and care required. The meticulous technique involved in locating veins and using the appropriate needles was an eye-opener, emphasizing the importance of both anatomical knowledge and gentle handling.

Surgical procedures, particularly neutering, were another cornerstone of my internship experience. Observing these surgeries allowed me to appreciate the complexity and precision required in veterinary surgery.
